What Amy Did: App store trials

I'm going to add my voice to those calling for trials of App Store apps. Here's how I could see it working: Developers can choose whether to allow a trial of 1, 7 or 30 days, orto disallow trials all together, on a per-app basis…

Clever — I've filed a dupe of the original radar report.

Disruptions: Where Apple and Dick Tracy May Converge

https://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/02/10/disruptions-apple-is-said-to-be-developing-a-curved-glass-smart-watch/

I've been keeping a close eye on the latest batch of "smart" watches - the Pebble looks to be the best of the bunch, but it looks awful bulky and the implementation hacky. So far, I'm not impressed.

A curved or flexible screen could provide enough real-estate for touch UI while also minimising bulk.

I haven't worn a watch in at least 10 years, but a slim, functional, iOS-compatible watch could change that.

Mac App Store

The real problem facing Mac devs is that consumers are now used togetting apps for free or paying very little for them. This, combinedwith the fact that Mac apps take longer to develop, make it a muchless attractive platform to try and earn a living from.

Rounded Rectangles: Nothing Clear (Or Cheap) About the Path from iOS to Mac

I can definitely sympathise with this. Sales on the Mac App Store are quite slow, in my experience.

It's possible to have an app chart in a category without having sold a single copy for a couple of weeks. That's not a good sign.

Public & private chat rooms, using App.net as a backend. Pretty cool. Check it out.

Mac mini -> iTunes Media Server

Seeing as the most popular post on this blog is the Old Apple TV -> iTunes Media Server post, I decided that it would be helpful to post a follow-up with my current setup, now that my old ATV has bitten the dust (and replacements are no longer available).

Stuff 'n' Junk, 2012 edition

A bunch of cool stuff I discovered over the past year. This was meant to be an end-of-2012 list, but I'm lazy, so… yeah, here it is in mid-January:

Nice to see Muud.io featured in App.net's weekly app blog.

Tokens - App Store promo codes without the hassle

If you're a Mac or iOS developer and frequently deal with iTunes Connect promo codes, you need this app.

New-ish stuff

I haven't posted much here lately. I'm currently working on a pretty large-scale project what will hopefully launch next year, which has kept me busy to say the least.

I have managed to set some time aside for a few updates and new side-projects though:

Muud.io was updated to support the iPhone 5 screen, as well as better Twitter & Facebook support. I also added App.net sharing, which was fun — they have a really nice API.

Comet was launched a few months back, but it's worth a mention again. If you're a Meteor.ie billpay customer, check it out — it lets you view your remaining texts, mins, & data at a glance.

Finally, Trackapult is the latest little utility I've published to the store. If you have a Mac and an iOS device, Trackapult lets you sync playback position of any song between devices. It will pause the song on one device, and begin playing it on the other in seconds. It works great with iTunes Match and is compatible with the latest version of iTunes (v11).
